Plan of Extension of the Trilingualism

To be a sucessful citizien, the students from the educational institutions of the Region of Valencia study in English with PEXTRI (Plan of Extension of the Trilingualism), apart from in Spanish and Valencian. We are the first autonomous community that teaches a subject entirely in English in all the educational institutions. The competence in English opens the doors of the future and success to the students.

Multiligual Education Programs try to include our two oficial languages (Valencian and Spanish) and one or two foreign languages as vehicular languages for the teaching. The objective is to open the doors to the multilinguism and to the European integration. Besides, it is expected that the plan responds the growing social request, promoting the English learning while the learning of our two official languages is improved and the students’ psicolinguistic ability is developed.

For this year 2008-09, around 50.000 students and 291 schools of Preschool and Primary Education in the entire Region use the PEXTRI. By provinces, the schools that have this plan are 35 in Alicante, 44 in Castellón and 212 in Valencia. We also count on 2.451 teachers, with the respective Education Inspectors and with the formation consultants from the Teacher's Formation Service as well as the Educational Consultancy for the Teaching in Valencian.

In the year 2008-09 the experimentation of this plan starts in 20 High Schools (Secondary Education, High School and Formative Cycles). This experimentation entails a process of methodological and linguistical training for the teachers of all the involved areas.
